Budgeting an indie film is a monumental task – one that SAGindie assists with when it comes to paying for your on-camera talent. But one area of expertise we rarely touch on is marketing and advertising. Luckily, the brainy folks over at Smarthouse Creative, a Seattle-based marketing and PR firm, has created a Digital Ad Spend Calculator to help filmmakers get a base knowledge of how much they should spend marketing their theatrical and/or VOD release.
Keep in mind, every film release is its own unique venture – like a unicorn – and no plan is right for everyone, but we thought this was an interesting tool to use as a reference. Plus, it shows that even after getting a film degree you still have to use math!
