Scott Gives Good Booth

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

I’m posting this photo to prove that Scott did more at the IFP Market than just binge drink and try to pick up girls.

Here, Scott is seen taking a break from surfing the internet for porn to talk to a filmmaker at the SAGIndie booth during the Film Expo.

As Scott has already posted below, we had a full week in New York… and it was nice to have someone to drink with now that Darrien has become all mother-like and stuff…

Going to Market

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Img_0333_2We just spent a week in New York for the IFP Market (yeah, I was there, just not pictured), and, no surprise, had a great time on the other coast.

What did we do? What didn’t we do?

Panels, seminars, an awards luncheon, screenings, and parties (you can see photos documenting this at right), not to mention binge drinking (but never, ever, on the clock).

The Market also represented our first opportunity to take our new contracts directly to the people of the Empire State, and the reaction from Market attendees was extremely positive. It’s always satisfying to deliver on the hype, and the uptick in SAG signatory productions since the introduction of the revamped agreements is strongly suggestive that we have.

And now that I am done with the obligatory flacking portion of the post (hey, I get paid by the word, people!), I’d like to point out to our reader(s) that there are some states out there that are seriously focused on providing very generous incentives to shoot within their borders.

Mississippi (yep, they’re still in business), New York, Florida, and Oregon were among the states with representatives in attendance, and since they are, in some cases, almost paying you to shoot there, I would encourage anyone considering shooting in one of those states to check their eligibilty with the approriate film office.

And, of course, to use SAG actors (yeah, I’m shameless) .

Rocky Mountain Hi

Saturday, September 3rd, 2005

I’m sitting in the lobby of my hotel, looking out at the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning.

I’m here for the 32nd Telluride Film Festival, one of my personal favorites. Telluride is unique in that they don’t announce the line-up of films until the day before the festival starts. As a result, there are very few publicists, agents, and dealmakers; and the contingent of press is small and restrained.

The focus of this festival is on the films and the filmmakers.

Yesterday afternoon, SAGIndie and Kodak hosted our Fourth Annual Filmmakers Reception at Harmon’s Restaurant. For the first time ever we asked an actor to act as guest host for this event. And Liev Schreiber, whose writing/directing debut Everything is Illuminated is premiering here, agreed to fill this spot.

I was also very happy to see that our friends who run the Waterfront Film Festival came to Telluride and joined us at the reception.1070798_img

This is a great festival for seeing great movies. The first year I came I saw thirteen films in three days. Last night I had hoped to see three films, but only ended up catching one; Hans Canosa’s Conversations with Other Women.

I blame the mojitos they were serving at the Cuban-themed Opening Night Feed.
